Showcase: CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) Bangladesh that took place at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel from 16th - 18th February
A three day long international exhibition titled "Showcase: CDM Bangladesh (Clean Development Mechanism Bangladesh) took place at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel from 16th - 18th February. BRAC EPL Investments Limited, a subsidiary of BRAC Bank Limited partnered the event, which was organized by ExpoNet Exhibition Ltd.
Over 1,000 foreign and local businesspeople, donor bodies and foreign trade department of different embassies in Bangladesh visited the "Showcase Clean Development Mechanism Bangladesh"
More than 35 renowned CDM technology-related companies from home and abroad including Norway, Denmark, Singapore, India, Japan and Korea showcased in 40 stalls their latest technologies and CDM equipment like renewable energy, bio-diversity, agricultural equipment, eco-friendly developers and housing engineering, compressed natural gas (CNG), effluent treatment plant (ETP), water treatment plant (WTP) and carbon gas emission-free equipments and technologies in the exhibition.
Industry Minister Mr. Dilip Borua inaugurated the event and was the chief guest on the occasion. He said that, "Green industrialization is one of the top priorities of Grand Alliance Government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of honorable prime Minister her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, which is why the Industries Ministry is working relentlessly with a view to make Bangladesh a nation known for its green industries. He also said that CDM is a time befitting initiative for the industries in Bangladesh to look into, as the future of the industries will depend on adapting greener and more sustainable technologies and practices. Also blessing the occasion were H.E Svend Olling, Ambassador, Royal Embassy of Denmark who encouraged the initiative. He spoke about Denmark's aggressiveness in tackling carbon emission and how Denmark can be a proof that economic growth does not have to happen at the cost of the environment. Mr. Javed Bin Karim, Director & Head - Impact Investments of BRAC EPL Investments Ltd (BEIL). Mr. Karim said that BEIL will play the role of the catalyst in bringing about this green change. He also spoke about BEIL's Impact Investments department and the services they are offering such as Carbon and Climate Advisory Services, Financial & Advisory services through sustainable investments and monitoring & verification of projects and businesses. Barrister Redwan Hossain, MD New Nation Solar Ltd & Mr. Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed, Program Manager, Rahim Afrooz Renewable Energy Ltd. was also present on the occasion and spoke in the ceremony. All of them highlighted that change was required and how their respective companies were playing their part.
Other events during the three-day event included business presentations by the participating companies, a round table discussion on "Green Trade Sources in Bangladesh", a Cross-border Business Night, Head-2-Head Business meetings ; and two individual presentations by the Royal Embassy of Denmark and The International Finance Corporation (IFC) Bangladesh.
